about Gunung Sari
The Gunung Sari Orchestra is a venerable orchestra with a long history, having first introduced Balinese performing arts to the world at The Colonial Exposition in Paris, France in 1931.
The group was founded in 1926 at the Royal Palace of Puri Kaleran in Peliatan village by a famous dancer and choreographer, Anak Agung Gede Mandera, together with other great musicians I Made Lebah, I Gusti Kompiang Pangkung, and friends, from the village of Peliatan.
The instrument used is a pentatonic gamelan called Gong Kebyar, which has an intense and powerful tone.
Since holding their first performance overseas to showcase Balinese performing arts, they have continued to perform in various parts of the world, including Paris, London, Europe, Australia, and the United States.
